“Pure Color, Original Elegance” with the Fab Flippin’ Furniture Contest – Dresser Makeover!

“Pure Color, Original Elegance”

Elegance, pure and original elegance that is what my project is about today. A piece that will embrace a modern twist on the Hollywood regency feel of the Art Deco era.

This is my project entry to “the Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest”, an exquisite furniture flip that turned this drab Facebook Sales Group find into a fantastically elegant piece with Pure & Original Paints. (Sponsored Post)

Pure & Original Paints sent us contestants two quarts of their Classico Chalk based Paint which is available in 118 Pure & Original Paints colors. It is a very matte finish that is water based and has easy clean up, it is lightly washable, environmentally friendly and made with 100% natural pigments.  Due to the ultra matte finish this paint has a velvet powdery look to it and when lightly sanded with 320 grit sand paper becomes so silky it is hard not to caress it with your touch.

With the theme of pure color, original elegance I could not stop thinking about how to spruce up this great dresser that had “good bones” when I bought it.  With hardware missing and a minor drawer repair needed,  all he desired was a little love. I ordered up some of Pure & Original Paints  classico Black as well as Black Truffle for a subtle tone on tone look.

The subtle differences is exactly what I was looking for to create an exquisite breath of elegance. I had a vision of a mash up of a modern casual feel and vintage Hollywood Regency for this piece.

I began by cleaning, prepping and repairing. With the first coat of  Pure & Original Paints I loved how smooth it applied like cutting butter with a hot knife. Once dry it was velvety smooth and the coverage was fantastic with the need of only two coats to completely cover the original wood.  I added a third coat because I knew I wanted to sand this to a super soft and silky finish . Even with this larger six drawer dresser and three coats of paint I still have not even used half the quart of Black Truffle Pure & Original Paints sponsored me with. I have about a third left so the coverage is fantastic!

This paint has such a professional feel, a unique powdery look and a silky smooth touch. The paint itself seems to be self leveling as no brush stroke textures came through. With the Black can of paint I began to brush and blend the edges of all the surface areas. A faded vignette of rich color absorbing depth was just what this piece needed.  Tone on tone elegance that shades off gradually into the darkness.  It was easy to blend back and smoothly fade the connection between the two.

To top it off I decided to add a few more details to this piece. Gold leaf accents the architectural aspects of its construction with the rope molding, bold footing and the edge around the dresser top.  This bold burst of shimmer contrasting with the soft casualness of the paint finish is perfect for a modern twist to this 1930s style.

The final details are in the sophisticated yet understated damask stenciling that begins on the front and wraps around the sides disappearing off the back edge like the time that once was the peak of elegance in the Art Deco era. The stencil was painted in the Black Truffle color so when dry the pattern is more predominant along the edge with the Black background and as it inches down the sides it begins to dissolve into the center where the vignette has faded revealing the Black Truffle base coat.

Aw, this was a very good post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort to produce a top notch article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and never seem to get
    nearly anything done.
